Through KP Connect we are strenghtening our response to key populations in Africa.
KP Connect works with key populations (KPs) such as men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender people, sex workers and people who use drugs. Its main aims are to improve programming and service provision for key populations, increase the engagement of national policy makers in key population issues to create a more enabling environment, and foster effective learning and knowledge sharing across the project.
The project operates in 10 African countries: Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.
KP Connect works primarily in partnership with Alliance Linking Organisations and key partners of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Africa. The programme aims to strengthen Linking Organisations, so that they are better able to work within the changing situation facing key populations in Africa and be a significant force for change in their own countries reducing the denial of rights, addressing exclusion of key populations from services, and challenging social stigma and systemic discrimination.
We also engage actively with LGBT+ organisations, sex worker organisations and organisations of drug users with the aim of encouraging stronger, more equitable and effective partnerships between key populations and Linking Organisations.
